Avoiding Dust

It isn’t unusual for program managers to fear that their finely tuned, well thought-out policy is only going to sit in a handbook on a unreachable shelf of a bookcase in a back office gathering dust.  The implementation strategy of your new policy is just as important to think about as all of the other steps and it can be just as pain free.

To avoid the dust, you should:

  • Pilot the policy first because it may not be quite right on the first try.
  • After the pilot stage, you will need to make it stick by training  everyone impacted by the changes.
  • Finally, you may need to manage community reactions - from parents, your board, the media.
