Researchers at The National Institute on Out-of-School Time (NIOST) have been partnering with BE SAFE since its inception to evaluate its work.
In 2010, they issued an Evaluation Final Report on the BE SAFE training.
In 2011, NIOST worked with BE SAFE to develop and pilot a Program Climate Observation Tool. This was transformed into the Program Climate Self Assessment Tool that youth-serving organizations can use to examine the components of their program that support a positive program climate aligned with the BE SAFE issues. This tool is meant to be helpful to programs as part of a program improvement process that examines program features, practices, and policies.
